The main focus of group therapy is to encourage participants to learn about themselves and to raise awareness of personal struggles. This process fosters free discussion and uninhibited self-reflection which helps with ongoing maintenance and behavior modification. Group sessions address feelings of depression, self-esteem, anxiety, substance abuse, conflict resolution, and communication. The content of each group session is based upon the need of those in attendance. Group members are required to express their own problems, feelings, ideas and reactions as honestly and openly as possible. Through the use of I Statements and self-reflection, participants are encouraged to take accountability for their actions and contemplate past decisions.
